Getting your CV ready
Your CV is your calling card, and needs to highlight your skills and give a sense of your work ethic. As the Northern Media Mentors have experience in looking at a wide variety of CVs, a mentor can give advice on how to get a CV ready for so that you’ve got the best chance of getting into the competitive TV industry.

Some CV tips

- Work experience is always good – try to work on TV productions at university. For instance, there are opportunities for students at the University of Hull through course projects, extra projects and Torch TV.
- While working on TV productions is essential, don’t discount the value of other work experience. If you’ve had a job working with the public (for instance, at a restaurant) knowing how to communicate with a variety of different people is an essential industry skill.
Advice and Links
Keep up to date with what’s happening in the TV industry in the UK. If you are applying to work in a UK company, ensure that you’re familiar with the kinds of shows they produce.
